OSTEOPATHY TREATMENT FOR BACK PAIN

80% of Australians will suffer from some degree of back pain during their lives. 1 in 10 of us will also experience a limitation of normal activity due to back pain (1)

Some common musculoskeletal sources of back pain include:

  • Acute or chronic injury
  • Joint or facet joint strain
  • Ligamentous or capsular strain
  • Muscular trigger points
  • Sciatica (nerve impingement)
  • Disc injury
  • Rib cage strain

Osteopaths are primary health care practitioners, and are trained to recognise causes of back pain which may require referral. We may also refer you for radiological assessment or communicate with your healthcare specialist or GP.

What will treatment involve?

During an appointment, a case history is taken, followed by an Osteopathic examination to help identify the type and cause of back pain being experienced.

For some causes of back pain, treatment may help alleviate symptoms. Osteopathic treatment may be combined with advice on rehabilitation exercises, postural involvement, sport participation, dietary advice or pain relief advice to help implement an overall management plan.
